About Chase Christopherson
I'm deeply passionate about nature and committed to safeguarding our environment, which has driven my career in natural resources. Initially drawn to the medical field during my undergraduate studies in biology at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (go Gophers!), I discovered a new passion for natural history and the Dakota language. These newfound interests prompted me to pursue a minor in American Indian Studies alongside my biology major. After graduation, I worked in logistics to gain work experience, but my heart was always in natural resources and conservation. Witnessing the impact of human activity on my Tribe's lands fueled my decision to pursue a Master's in natural resources management at North Dakota State University. There, I honed my skills in research, proposal development, and fieldwork, culminating in a thesis currently undergoing publication. Additionally, I interned with the Intertribal Forest Management Assessment Team, assessing forest conditions and management strategies across tribal lands. In my most recent role as a Natural Resources & Agricultural Specialist at a non-profit, I assisted tribes in enhancing their sovereignty through data acquisition, land management planning, and climate change resilience. I conducted literature reviews and developed best management practice guides. I am currently working on a nationwide project committed to correcting past Indigenous erasure in scientific journals. My upbringing and diverse experiences have shaped my commitment to conservation and supporting tribal sovereignty. I believe that we need to work with nature as stewards, not managers, and that Tribal nations need to be involved to a greater extent in the discussions on biodiversity preservation and climate change resiliency. I approach my work with passion, diligence, and thoughtful consideration, dedicating myself fully to each task at hand.
