I am the first lawyer SimpleCitizen hired to serve the company in-house and have been entrusted with overseeing all facets of SimpleCitizen's consumer business, including strategy, operations, marketing, creative, legal, and product.As an attorney with years of experience developing online legal services, I counsel company leadership and board members on related matters, with a strong focus on legal ethics and professional responsibility. Moreover, as an extension of our parent organization's legal team, I collaborate to ensure alignment and adherence to legal requirements and standards. I am also actively involved in conducting legal research, drafting and reviewing essential legal documents, and ensuring compliance standards are met, while also safeguarding the company's interests. While not wearing my company lawyer hat, I play a pivotal role in developing customer acquisition strategies and implementing initiatives to enhance the overall customer experience. I work closely with the company's customer success and engineering leadership, directing the development of new products and features, driving innovation and delivering value to our customers.

As a member of LegalZoom's Attorney Services team, I played a vital role in managing the delivery of efficient legal services to our customers. I led new initiatives related to attorney fulfilled products and maintained strong relationships with our independent attorney network. Additionally, I contributed to researching legal regulatory reform efforts, which resulted in LegalZoom successfully obtaining an Arizona alternative business structure license.During this process, I collaborated closely with company leadership and counsel, conducting legal ethics research and drafting essential application and compliance documents. These efforts led to the groundbreaking launch of LZ Legal Services, the first US-based law firm owned and operated by a public company.Furthermore, I provided valuable expertise on legal technology and innovation to company leadership, informing our strategy, operations, and business development teams on industry advancements.

While part of the American Bar Association Center for Innovation team, I served members of the association and other interested stakeholders as a legal innovation subject matter expert. I led agile software and web development projects, collaborating with practice area experts, bar association staff, and external partners. I was also the day-to-day manager of the Center's fellowship program, remotely supporting a cohort of legal innovation fellows to conceptualize and build replicable, sustainable access to justice projects. Additionally, I was also responsible for researching and tracking legal regulatory reform efforts across the United States.

While part of the Road to Status team, I helped to launch and grow an exciting, impactful consumer-facing legal technology company. Primarily responsible for evaluating prospects and leading outreach efforts to potential distribution channels, customers, and industry thought leaders I helped to increase our revenue over 900%. Using my skills as a "T-shaped lawyer," I also helped our leadership team understand the use case for expert systems and document automation tools in the legal industry. Further relying on my legal skill set, I worked closely with our product and engineering teams to help build a compliant, consumer-centric, family-based immigration technology platform. Finally, always interested in tracking and understanding how consumers interact with legal technology, I also led our user experience research projects and devised the methods our team used to collect user feedback and maintain an NPS of 80+.

As the Director of Legal Operations at Lawfty, I helped our firm sign 1,000+ new engagements and increase our case pipeline value by $38M. As the team's fourth employee, I established our Washington, D.C. office and managed the firm's day-to-day national legal operations. Alongside Lawfty's San Francisco based engineering team, I also helped to build world-class technology that uses a human + machine approach to turn legal advertising into a science. Primarily responsible for designing, testing, and implementing the first version of Lawfty's support staff and attorney-facing platform, I systematized and automated our client intake process enabling our team and partner firms to predict case viability, achieve greater returns from our advertising spend, and be more responsive to potential clients. Additionally, I was charged with recruiting, hiring, and training our legal support staff.

As a Project Consultant, I worked with an eclectic group of business and legal professionals in Navigant's Financial Services practice to help one of the world's largest banks better understand its legal obligations. My role was to review state-specific sections of the Dodd-Frank Act, locate actionable language within the text, and help create a business process map for our client. After a short time, I was added to the quality assurance team, reviewing the work of others and advising my teammates how to follow legal research best practices.

While in law school, I was fortunate to learn from a seasoned practitioner. Attorney Gaffney was in general practice. As such, I gained experience researching and writing legal memorandum about a variety of legal issues. But this role was a formative one for me, because it taught me a lot about the challenges solo and small law firm attorneys face building and running a service business in today's legal marketplace.

My semester working in Michigan State University College of Law's Housing Clinic was an experience that brought our nation's justice gap home for me. As a Student Clinician, our professors empowered us to run our own files. And for the first time, it was my responsibility to see my clients' matters through. During my time in the clinic, I learned to conduct client intakes, spot issues, and counsel low-income clients through a variety of landlord-tenant, foreclosure, and other property-law related legal issues. I successfully negotiated multiple settlements for my clients and when necessary advocated for them in housing court, under Michigan Court Rule 8.120.

As a Greenlight Legal Research Fellow at Spartan Innovations, Michigan State University's startup incubator, I worked with a wide range of business professionals from newly minted student entrepreneurs to established executives. Under the supervision of a Michigan licensed attorney, I counseled admitted startups regarding the business formation process. To help make what seemed like a complex process easier, I created a uniform, online checklist that my clients could use to better understand what tasks needed to be completed and in what order, to successfully form their desired business entity. I also assisted admitted startups by researching legal issues, drafting legal memorandum, and proactively highlighting potential pitfalls to incubator and company leadership.

Hennessy & Roach was one of my first roles in the legal industry. My experience there is what solidified my decision to attend law school. As a File Clerk, my primary duties were ensuring the office's files remained organized, were up-to-date, and ready for court. My secondary responsibilities required some flexibility and a willingness to get intimately familiar with the office copy machine. Essentially, if the firm needed grunt work done - I was the one to do it. And I am thankful to this day for the invaluable experience I gained interacting with court clerks, support staff, and other allied legal professionals.
