Lecturer

Jan 2016 - Dec 2016

Postdoctoral Researcher

I conducted NIH funded research (1R21AR064437-01A1, PI: Benjamin Wu) to design and develop a novel, light responsive drug delivery-on-demand system created from traditionally non-photoresponsive biomaterials to treat chronic wounds. Additionally, I worked on identifying bioactive peptides to replace growth factors for tissue engineering applications. Furthermore, I gained experience preforming survival surgeries on mice, and preparing animal tissues for histology and analyses. Finally, I managed and mentored 3 undergraduate research assistants during my time as a postdoctoral researcher.

Apr 2015 - Mar 2016

Graduate Student Researcher

I designed a light actuated delivery-on-demand system for biologically active molecules that utilized safe visible and near infrared light and biocompatible light responsive materials. Additionally, I worked on designing three-dimensional, biomimetic bone scaffolds from naturally derived biopolymers and studied the effect scaffolding materials had on stem cell growth and osteogenic differentiation. Furthermore, I successfully co-authored proposals for extramural (NIH grant 1R21AR064437-01A1, PI: Benjamin Wu) and intramural funding as well as wrote manuscripts to communicate experimental results. Finally, I managed and mentored 5 undergraduate research assistants during my time as a graduate student researcher.

May 2009 - Mar 2015

Teaching Assistant, Associate, Fellow

My responsibilities included developing lesson plans for expanding on course content, and for improving student writing and communication skills in order to prepare students for successful participation in their professional areas. Additionally, I graded midterm examinations and final examinations as well as provided feedback on and graded lab notebooks, essays and group reports. I helped prepare course material for ABET accreditation portfolio. I also supervised students in a lab setting and troubleshot problems with experiments as well as managed lab inventory. Courses: Bioengineering 165EW - Bioengineering Ethics; Bioengineering 180: System Integration in Biology, Engineering, and Medicine I; Bioengineering 182A - Capstone Design I; Engineering 183EW - Engineering and Society
