Profile bio

About Chase Nice

I have Bachelor degrees in both Physics and Electrical Engineering. My studies included power engineering, microwave engineering, embedded systems, electrodynamics and field theory. Before leaving campus, I re-instated the Student Association for Physics Majors. My most noteworthy project was the design and implementation of all electronics and communications in a remote controlled 2-man ATV.I started my career as a field engineer for Flanders Inc. My duties included troubleshooting large mining equipment, such as shovels and haul trucks. In addition I was in charge of CAD design for PLC systems. The majority of my time with Flanders had me working on the development and testing of a prototype DC-to-AC upgrade package for haul trucks. This work helped develop skills with electro-mechanical systems, PLC programming, and time management. Most of my project took place in coal mines, where keeping up with an ever-changing environment is key to both success and safety.Instead of coal mines and earth shaking equipment, I now pursue a career in clean rooms and silicon wafering. I am now at the leading edge of the electronics industry where I maintain and improve processes to grow, slice and polish silicon wafers for the manufacturing of microchips. Measuring yield improvement by a fraction of a percent has boosted my appreciation for detailed engineering studies and rigorous process control. Additionally, collaborating on projects with engineers from many countries has greatly improved my communication skills. When working through language barriers, I must understand my own process and data intimately, to successfully communicate that in the simplest turns with my foreign counterparts. When not in the office, I enjoy traveling abroad with my wife. Some of my favorite countries include Italy and Scotland, but I especially enjoy Japan where I happen to visit frequently for work. In between trips I study the Japanese language (helpful in the silicon industry) and teach myself 3D design and printing.

Listed skills include Electrical Engineering, C++, Embedded Systems, Physics, and 19 others.
