• Designed structures for a 250-kW axial flux electric motor with carbon fiber composites using Solidworks CAD. Created a design of experiments to help guide direction of architecture and identify key characteristics. Weight optimized parts with Abaqus FEA and a genetic algorithm personally made in Python. Generated pareto frontiers which discovered a 33% mass reduction when compared with an equivalent performing aluminum rotor structure.• Performed initial sizing of parts with classical “hand” calculations and laminate theory. Created finite element analysis models that agreed with initial sizing and refined the models later using data points from testing.• Delivered detailed technical reports and presentations over our design, decision-making, and work strategy to Advanced Research Project Agency program sponsors. Was awarded 2nd half of Phase 1 research contract.• Worked with a supplier to manufacture a prototype of the rotor. Created an assembly process for the final prototype and manufactured it for presentation to sponsors as well as testing.• Designed test fixtures for static tensile testing of the rotor. Created a test plan and conducted the test safely.
