About Chase Benton
I grew up in a small town in California where I quickly developed a love for anything automotive. I would spend time with my dad working on our vehicles and keeping our boats, jet skis, and side by sides running to the best of their abilities. When I was approaching the age where I would graduate high school, I decided that I wanted to attend Brigham Young University Idaho and pursue a degree in Automotive Engineering Technology. The automotive program at BYU-Idaho is so unique because of the customer experience that is provided here. We have the opportunity to work on real customer vehicles that have real issues that need to be fixed. The professors strive to encourage high levels of communication with customers to keep them up to date with our diagnostics and repairs. We also strive to find the root cause of a problem. While solving the issue at its source, this also allows us to dive deep into the operations of a vehicle's systems and really understand what is going on in the system that we are working on. The automotive program at BYU-Idaho has helped me pass four Automotive Service Excellence exams. The hands on portion of the Automotive Engineering Technology program has helped me to understand how vehicles operate and how vehicles make driving easier and safer for us. While attending Brigham Young University Idaho I had the opportunity to work at John Adams GMC as a Lube and Tire Technician/Technician Apprentice. While working at that dealership I participated in General Motors' training program "GM Global Connect". This training supported the education I was working on at BYU-Idaho and helped me understand General Motors vehicles with more detail. During my employment at John Adams GMC I was able to improve my skills using my hands and working on vehicles.During my studies at BYUI I also completed two internships with General Motors in the Structural Development Lab and the Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness Lab as a Lab Technician. These internships were such a great experience for me as I prepare for my career. They provided me with experiences that can only be found in the Research and Development area of the automotive market, and I look forward to applying my new skills upon graduation.
