Hello,I’m Chase Bent, a Class of 2026 undergraduate student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, majoring in Marine Sciences with a focus on ocean research. My interests lie at the intersection of marine biology and medical sciences, with the goal of contributing to pharmacological research considering biologically active compounds derived from marine organisms. After completing my degree, I plan to pursue graduate studies in either medicine or a related scientific discipline.In the lab, I’ve gained hands-on experience in sampling and monitoring phytoplankton species, refining my analytical and research skills. My passion for teaching and leadership has been honed over nine summers as a sailing instructor, where I developed public speaking and instructional abilities. Additionally, I bring diverse experience from the foodservice and journalism industries, enhancing my adaptability and communication.Outside of academics, I’m an avid surfer, sailor, mountain biker, and skier. I also enjoy camping and working on restoring old cars.
