PHILOSOPHER - I work primarily in the domain of philosophy and my training has been grounded in the tradition of Western analytical philosophy. I focus in the space of bioethics, most interested in the interaction of the ethical frameworks healthcare research, policy, and practice as it related to systems of power and social ontology. I research primarily LGBTQ+ social movements to that end. I am also generally interested in the teaching of philosophy and ethics as a space itself. Because of the nature of my work I also find myself working in other areas of philosophy- such as political philosophy, social philosophy, and even the philosophy of religion!PERFORMER - When I started my undergrad experience, I was a drag queen whose day job was studying the worlds of philosophy and medicine and spending my nights dancing like a fool in bars and places that were radically different atmospheres! Nonetheless, that ability to catch an audience and be quick on my feet makes me a better leader, teacher, organiser- and it demonstrates a creativity that I try to bring to my writing and teaching.ORGANISER - Community is at the core of everything I do. Who we are and what that means in our place with others is at the center of my research, my performance, my passion for teaching, and my work at bedside. I am a community builder, and a leader insofar as I am able to organise people into nurturing, healthy communities.TEACHER - Teaching was and still is my first love. I used to gather my stuffed animals and teach to them as a child, blabbering on about whatever it was I had learned in school that day. I love working together with students through complex issues and helping foster more critical, discerning people who are able to confront and overcome interpersonal and professional philosophical and ethical hurdles as they arise in front of them.SERVANT - My experiences at bedside as a healthcare worker with patients at some of their lowest and even last moments foundationally changed the work I now do in bioethics and thinking about the role of healthcare in our society. To serve in this way humanises the work of bioethics and healthcare policy. As a teacher, at bedside, or even in my interpersonal life I always want to give myself over to people and help actualise happy, healthy, integrated communities- and to be a leader in reimagining ways in which we take up space.
