The toughest challenge for someone in this role is engaging a team of volunteers to take on tedious tasks with passion! By asking the existing team what their greatest hurdles were, I was able to build systems, setup processes and find the best talent for key leadership roles (those team members with the firmest grasp of the root cause of the problem because leaders in their department). During my tenure, we grew by 12x and maintained one of the lowest turnover rates in the organization.

Understanding consumer data is important. Obviously. But without understanding the process of synthesizing data into just theory and you miss the opportunities to improve user experience and increase customer engagement. Admittedly, I was a small fish in a big pond at Apple but the data stories I learned to tell allowed me to collaborate on projects that improved user experience for tens of millions of product users in ways that direct impacted profitability.

I used to think customer service and sales were separate departments. I was mistaken. I learned Sales is a process under the umbrella of Customer Service and Sales can often serve as the means for effectively solving customer service challenges.While serving as a hiring manager and interim operations manager for our brand new location, my team set program records and became the model for sales and customer service best practices. This allowed us to grow to more than 240 reps in our first 2 years and 9 of my direct reports were promoted into leadership positions before I left Houston, Texas for for Austin, Texas in July of 2016.
