Rationalism is the enemy of art, though necessary as a basis for architecture -Arthur Erickson. I love beautiful buildings. It is a rewarding experience to transform a client’s wildest imaginations to reality. The more projects I completed, the stronger Arthur Erickson’s wisdom resonates. The design challenge of marrying the form and function of a building is beyond dispute. Despite the experience of living in 5 cities and 3 countries, a big part of me is still a curious boy who never stop exploring beyond the geographic and cultural boundaries for new experiences. Being born in Malaysia, I was equipped with the will of getting things done with limited resources and developed my sensitivity relating to cultural diversity. The tertiary education, professional apprenticeship and life experience in two cities in Australia established a sound foundation for my professional development. The rapid development of China has provided me with numerous unique opportunities to put my career development in fast track with firsthand experiences of handling high-profile projects. Looking back, it has been quite a journey. Deep down, however, I am still that curious boy who passionate about reading, drawing, and searching for new experiences.Along with this journey, naturally, my knowledge and skills have evolved. Hotels, commercial mixed-use and high-end residential developments are among the design projects I have the opportunities to work on. From these projects, I have grown from a design architect who was focused for hands-on technical tasks to a leadership position in the company responsible for design development, client management and project execution. The leadership role in the design team enables me to visualize the project at a higher level. It leads me to develop a better understanding of the importance of the business side of the design world. For all the likeminded professionals who are passionate about architecture, contact me at tachping@hotmail.com.
