Jan Rosen has always had a special touch when it comes to food and from the moment she and her sister opened their first restaurant, the Salad Mill, at the age of 23, Jan Rosen has continued to serve delicious treats with a star-studded reputation.For over 20 years Jan served as an inspiration for the Sonoma County business community, following the success of their first restaurant with a second location, and the JM Rosen’s Cheesecake Bakery, a wholesale bakery that would become famous from the White House to Hollywood.Jan, a native New-Yorker who moved to California at 21, never forgot the dense creaminess and thin pastry crust of the New York style cheesecake. With that memory in mind, Jan and her sister opened the bakery in 1983, with the mission to bring true New York style cheesecake to the West Coast.The JM Rosen’s Cheesecake was a favorite of Frank Sinatra’s and with his endorsement, Jan found herself delivering and serving fresh cheesecake to the whole of Central and Southern California; to everyone from the chefs at the Regent Beverly Wilshire to President Ronald Reagan.In 1996 Jan opened a restaurant featuring her own special recipes and focusing on fine dining called the JM Rosen’s Waterfront Grill. She and her sister then opened a casual style restaurant called Rosen’s Eastside Grill in 2001. Soon after the death of her sister, Michele Rosen, in 2004, Jan stepped back from some of their shared ventures, deciding to renew her focus on her family and the still-renowned JM Rosen’s Cheesecake.With Jan’s vision and backed by an unbeatable cheesecake, she was able to expand the distribution of her product all the way across the Rocky Mountains, and her cheesecakes filled the shelves of Whole Foods. Currently Jan is living in Petaluma, California and is a freelance consultant for local restaurants, while always keeping her eye out for the next sweet deal.
