I had a dream and it was to start my own business. After 31 years with EY, I decided to take early retirement effective 30 June 2018 from my position as an Audit Partner. I felt that the time was right to start my own business advisory practice (www.icfoadvisors.com). I know that it is not going to be a walk in the park but I will give it my best try. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. In Oct 2020, my application as a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner was approved.During the time at EY, I lived in many places, including Moscow in Russia, Kathmandu in Nepal, and Boston and New Orleans in the USA. Thanks to the EY global network, I experienced different cultures and met a diverse range of people who enriched my personal and professional lives. In Moscow, I first learned that any car on the road could be a taxi as long as you put your hand out and it stops for you - this perhaps is the precursor to the Ubers of today! In Kathmandu, I encountered a totally manual accounting record-keeping system for a bank back in the early 1990s, with inter-branch reconciliations that ran into numerous pages. In New Orleans, it was an eye-opening Mardi Gras experience that has continued to bring back special memories. As an EY audit partner, I served a diversified portfolio of SGX-listed and MNC engagements, covering industries and sectors such as REITs/business trusts, technology, retail, insurance, shipping, industrial products and manufacturing.I have served as an Independent Director for companies listed in Singapore, in addition to serving as either a Board or an Audit Committee member for 4 not-for-profit organisations. I am also a member of ISCA's Investigation & Disciplinary Panel.I find much joy in a game of golf, I marvel at the talents of Tiger Woods and I enjoy watching Liverpool play, especially when the team wins!I am excited as I began Chapter 2 of my professional career. I look forward to the joys and challenges of building my business advisory practice.
