Chelsea Tobin is a Development Associate at C&O Canal Trust. She possess expertise in public speaking, critical thinking, teaching, nonprofits, creativity and 33 more skills. During her first development meeting, I put together a plan for management training and promotion. Once she became a manager, Chelsea had one of the strongest rates of trainee performance. In fact, many of the people she trained later became managers themselves. Chelsea has a wide range of interests from sports to literature, and these help her find avenues to engage with people to bring out their best. In 2018, I promoted Chelsea to Assistant Director. She took on the responsibility of recruiting new staff, conducting first interviews, and learning to train new managers. Chelsea was always prepared, on time, and asked thoughtful questions. In the times I was sick or away on vacation, Chelsea took on the responsibilities of running the Denver office and I knew it was in good hands. Chelsea approaches challenges with a solution-oriented mindset - she always puts the team first and handles difficulty with grace and thoughtfulness. In 2019, Chelsea was offered the position of Canvass Director in my original home office of Austin, Texas. It was an honor to have such a strong staff member take over a leadership role in the office where I was first hired. We kept in touch as she took on new responsibilities in a new state. As a director, Chelsea also spent time working to build on her skills, taking courses, and reading books on leadership. She is constantly looking for opportunities to learn and grow, and inspires others to do the same. It was a joy to work with Chelsea and I would gladly work with her again. She was in the process of building our staff when COVID hit, and again, she handled this challenge incredibly gracefully. Almost everything about our work changed in this time, and she was able to roll with the punches in a way that kept us all motivated to take on these new challenges and to continue doing all that we could to be successful.
