Chelsea served as a School Board Trustee in the San Mateo-Foster City School District from December 2013 through November 2017. Chelsea was elected as President of the School Board on December 8, 2016, to serve until November 2017. As a School Board Trustee, Chelsea's goal was to make the SMFCSD equitable for all students in San Mateo and Foster City. Chelsea supported regular communication with the community, logical safety measures to protect our students and teachers/staff, well-considered and community-based decisions about managing enrollment growth, and a thoughtful and effective transition and implementation of California's Common Core Standards and requirements under the new Local Control Funding Formula, including development of the district's Local Control Accountability Plan and community engagement in connection therewith.Having majored in Elementary Education and Psychology and having taught kindergarten and first grade from 1994-1998, being an active volunteer in the SMFC School District since 2009 and an active community volunteer in many organizations, as well as being a successful professional, Chelsea was able to bring a balanced and experienced perspective to discussion of the important issues regularly considered by the SMFC School Board.Chelsea graduated from the California School Board's Association (CSBA) "Masters in Governance Program" in May 2016. Chelsea is also a graduate of the San Mateo Leadership Class of 2017. In order to further advocate for productive educational policy at the State level, Chelsea regularly participated in CSBA legislative action days, met with local legislators, and was a member of Assembly Member Kevin Mullin's Education Advisory Committee in 2017.
