I selected protocols and conducted audits to ensure clinical trials are conducted, recorded, and reported in accordance with the protocol, SOP, Good Clinical Practices (GCP), and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), as well as all research standards set forth by the IRB-of-record, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP), University of Colorado Hospital, University of Colorado Denver (UCD), and National Cancer Institute (NCI). I ensured that written procedures were followed and evaluated quality systems, processes, procedures, and protocols for safety and compliance based on regulations. I worked for the Centers for American Indian and Alaskan Native Health (CAIANH) at UCDenver in conjunction with the BIEL. For this project, we utilized BIOPAC software for ECG, ICG, GSR collection and analysis while conducting a modified Trier Social Stress Test (TSST). I assisted in writing SOPs and the lab manual for the trial. I was also responsible for assisting in the collection and extraction of 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring data.

The BIEL's focus was on the effects of allostatic load on immune and endocrine system functioning. The BIEL is a core lab that focuses not only on their own grant-based studies but in processing hair and blood samples to assess cortisol levels in collaboration with other labs around the globe. We collaborated with Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn and Dr. Elissa Epel on several lab projects to assess the effects of allostatic load on telomere length and disease risk.I was a part of one full research grant while at the BIEL.1.
