I started working for Starbucks while I was in college. After a few months as a barista, I was promoted to a Shift Supervisor. I became a Learning Coach, which meant that I could train new employees. I also completed the knowledge training to become a Coffee Master, and I still have the black apron to prove. I was a Business Management major in college and a lot of my classes had business examples from Starbucks. It was neat to be able to see what I was learning in class, actually happen in action on the job.Upon graduation, I was relocated to the Miracle Mile store in Monroeville and soon promoted to Assistant Store Manager. My favorite functions were the HR tasks like interviewing potential applicants, conducting employee performance reviews, and creating partner development plans. (Starbucks calls all of their employees partners. At an average of 20 hours per week, employees earn stock options and literally become "partners.")
