Results of this year’s visit include a concrete progress on a cross-country collaborative project on railway weather resilience, a tour to phenomenal railway research facilities in UKRRIN, numerous productive discussions with intelligent scholars and industrial fellows with diverse expertise, which stimulated multiple potential research topics, and engagement with other visiting scholars and BCRRE students to build new connections and raise international visibility of the rail program in the Department of Transportation and Logistics Management (TLM) at NYCU. My research focus on passenger railroad risk and safety. I am now conducting research regarding railroad accident risk analysis on railroad shared use corridors (shared by freight and passenger trains) to identify major train accident causes and develop risk model and mitigation strategies in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world. I am also very interested in high-speed rail engineering, planning, operation, and technology.
