Chen Duan is a Head of Product at Planned. They is proficient in Mandarin and French. Colleagues describe them as "Amongst all of the people I worked with at Wavo over the years, there was always agreement that Chen was the smartest person in the room. We consistently looked to him for consultation, advice, and a shoulder to lean on. To this day, even though I do not work with him directly anymore, I am still amazed and inspired by his critical thinking, his logic, his adaptability, and his uncanny ability to put a smile on my face. As a Media Analyst at Wavo, Chen quickly proved his aptitude and within months was introducing drastic improvements to his teams structure and process, increasing his team’s throughput and creating an environment focused on improving understanding of the job to be done - two things that were critical to Wavo’s success at the time. At that time my job as a developer was to increase the efficiency of his team, and without Chen’s work and input I would not have been able to do this. I think that Chen working directly with engineers laid the foundation for his future role as a Product Manager; we saw the spark in his eyes when he had the opportunity to take on product focused roles and I am happy to see the strides he has made in his career since. As a Product Manager at Wavo, I worked with Chen in a much more formal way than I had previously. I think giving Chen the tools to build and the freedom to experiment as a PM allowed his skills and technical capability to really shine. The quality of our products and - in my opinion, more importantly - the resilience of our products in the face of rapidly increasing scale, application, and changes in the market were unmatched, and I am 100% confident that without Chen we would have been scrambling to adapt. In all, I think Chen is a great addition to any team, and to be honest probably in any role. If Chen told me tomorrow he wanted to be a software engineer I would have no doubts. If Chen told me tomorrow he wanted to manage a restaurant I would have no doubts. If Chen told me tomorrow that he wanted to pilot commercial A380s I would have no doubts. I have so much confidence in him. I consider him to be one of the greatest colleagues I have ever had, but more so I consider him to be one of the greatest friends I have ever had."
