• Created a web app to analyze biological data with the goal of providing a service to biologists so that they can easily understand the results through a simple yet intuitive UI, create powerful interactive publication-quality figures using SVG and JavaScript, and share the results with collaborators. The back-end was written using Java servlets and the front-end utilized AJAX to fluidly interact with the back-end. It quickly became a popular tool in systems biology to perform enrichment analysis on expression data due to its ease of use and thorough results.• Developed a Java desktop app, capable of running in a command line, desktop, or web app environment using the same code base, that enables researchers to make predictions on their experimental data so they can better focus their research. Using Maven to manage the project, the app can be built as a singular package for desktop and web use or broken up into 4 lightweight components capable of performing a subset of the analysis. It was used to identify a key protein for kidney disease.• Repurposed existing drug testing data to develop a Java desktop app that can identify the most effective drug cocktails to reverse or induce a condition. It was used to identify a drug cocktail that is effective at treating kidney disease.• Gave several lectures introducing Python programming, data structure concepts, biological data processing, and web programming in Django to graduate students in a computer programming class.

• Designed the front-end for a Ruby on Rails web app that centralized changes to a highly edited XML source and notified subscribers of changes to certain sections of the XML. Previously, the shared XML source constantly had conflicts due to simultaneous edits in version control. I also implemented the back-end necessary to propagate the changes to other sources that were dependent on that XML.• Created a regression test suite in Java that compared baseline PDFs to the latest PDFs from tax agencies and incorporated it into the continuous integration system to ensure quality control and to reduce the amount of time that QAs needed to recheck changes to previously finished work.• Developed a desktop Java tool that showed the differences between two PDFs in a visual format so tax analysts could easily determine what part of the tax code changed.• Automated the generation of status reports using XSLT and Java to organize and report the status of the source XML data providing information such as comparison statistics, code completion, and regression test coverage so that managers could get a high-level view of the progress.

Collaborated in developing a Flash web app written in Adobe Flex in just 3 months to visualize and analyze flow cytometry data. Responsible for the majority of the UI design, form data validation, and support for superscript, subscript, and Greek characters in molecule names. Most impressively, I designed an auto-layout function in the network view of the data that would automatically size the partitions of the data types and lay out the nodes according to their type so that the user would not have to do this manually.

• Built a collection of tools in Python and C to interface with testing hardware over a GPIO bus in order to test the reliability and performance of the prototype under various conditions, saving time for the engineers by automating prototype testing.• Ported temperature interface code from C/Windows to Python/Linux in order to better integrate with the rest of the testing tools, written in Python, allowing engineers to create a testing pipeline.• Wrote a Python script to automate the loading of waveforms to the waveform generators, providing the engineers a faster way of testing new waveforms by not having to use MATLAB.
