Isolated enzymatically active washed rubber particles from natural rubber (NR) latex to be conducted in in vitro NR biosynthesis. 2. Investigated the mechanism of NR biosynthesis using in situ Raman spectroscopy, high resolution size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, gas chromatography (GC) and mass spectrometry (MS)3. Synthesized a polyisobutylene (PIB) macroinitiator (7 steps, 14 intermediates involved, using both conventional and enzymatic synthesis routes) to yield novel terpenoid/NR copolymers in vitro.4. Prepared low-MW functionalized PIB and monitored its initiation and propagation kinetics utilizing in situ infrared (IR) spectroscopy.5. Characterized polymers and intermediates with NMR, and MS techniques (MALDI and ESI).6. Collaborated with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, USDA, and Université de Bordeaux.
