Developing an innovative medical device product in cardiology.

Initiator of MedInnovate, which aims at establishing a European hub for medical innovation and entrepreneurship in MedTech. With fellowship programs and strong support, the goal is to develop the future leaders in innovation of medical technologies. MedInnovate is a public non-profit organization supported by TUM and UnternehmerTUM. MedInnovate aims at a step-wise approach to identify unmet medical needs, and design innovative solution concepts and business cases to boost the startup culture in Germany and the European Union. Based on the successful BioDesign process, medical technology and solutions in the area of BioEngineering are addressed by following a needs-driven framework.During workshops, interdisciplinary teams not only learn how to efficiently identify unmet clinical needs within the routine of a hospital, but also work towards realistic solutions to solve those. Fellows get to know various tools helping them to be successful innovators in medical technology and apply their knowledge directly in a clinical setting.

Computer Aided Medical Procedures (CAMP) is one of the reference centers in the field of medical image computing in Europe. Its work ranges from incremental, radical and fundamental research on perception issues in medical imaging and augmented reality to applied research for medical image processing and robotics.Main responsibilities are the scientific coordination of a technical research laboratory located within the hospital. This encompasses publication activities, the application and coordination of research grants, as well as the supervision and mentoring of students at all levels up to doctoral candidates.Projects: ¤ Main investigator for H2020 EU project Enhanced Delivery Ecosystem for Neurosurgery in 2020.¤ Coordinator of project on telerobotic ultrasound using 5G telecommunication.¤ Computational sonography for orientation-independent and reliable 3D ultrasound imaging.¤ RoBILDOR (BFS project, development of approaches for multimodal robotic 3D imaging).

BioInnovate Ireland is a national medical technology innovation training programme that aims to act as a neutral territory in which academia, clinicians and industry can collaborate to develop novel medical technologies. The programme is an active partnership between multiple universities (NUI Galway, University of Limerick and University College Cork), engages with hospitals all over the country, and is supported by Enterprise Ireland, IMDA and multiple industry sponsors. BioInnovate is affiliated with the Stanford BioDesign program.

i2sene develops a novel, cost-effective solution for atherosclerosis restenosis monitoring. The technology relies upon multiple MEMS pressure sensors mounted on support structures with a wireless communication between the sensors and a near-body device.
