Stanley Chan (A.K.A. Chen Qiufan) is an award-winning science fiction writer, translator, curator, columnist, and scriptwriter who explores critical and contemporary themes such as climate change and artificial intelligence. His works have been translated into numerous languages, including German, French, Italian, Polish, Czech, Finnish, Japanese, and Korean, and he has served as a fellow, speaker, and researcher at the Berggruen Institute, the Paris Peace Forum, the UN COP28 Conference in Dubai, the MacMillan Center at Yale University, and the Asia 21 leadership community at Asia Society.Stanley’s debut novel Waste Tide won the best novel prize in the 2013 Chinese Nebula Award and was described as a work "when William Gibson writes The Windup Girl.” The book was translated into English in 2019 and will be adapted into an international feature movie. Stanley’s signature work also includes AI 2041: Ten Visions for Our Future (co-authored with Dr. Kai-Fu Lee) which explores the impact of AI on society and won the German Business Book Prize of 2022. Over the years, Stanley has been recognized multiple times at science fiction literary awards such as the Taiwan Fantasy Award, the Chinese Galaxy Award, and the World SF&F Translation Award, which was a first for a Chinese writer.A prolific writer, Stanley’s stories have been published in Fantasy & Science Fiction, MIT Technology Review, Clarkesworld Magazine, Year's Best SF, Interzone, Lightspeed, Lime, Pathlight, Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar, as well as influential Chinese science fiction magazine Science Fiction World.Stanley’s writing draws on more than a decade of experience in online advertising, marketing, branding, and account management mainly in the internet and real estate industries, including at multi-national companies Google and Baidu. During this time, Stanley’s strengths in strategic project management helped him win awards for a creative marketing campaign for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and for innovation in customer engagement in 2010.Stanley is always keen to explore topics related to technology, ancient Chinese philosophies, the Zeitgeist of the times, and any unconventional ideas. He is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
