    • Developed user-defined element (VUEL) and user-defined material (VUMAT) subroutines in ABAQUS/Explicit to investigate the stress–strain relations of concrete for large strain• Proposed a high-fidelity micro-mechanical model for fiber-reinforced concrete, which explicitly simulates the fiber as a series of elasto-plastic beam elements, to account for various fiber-concrete interaction mechanisms, including the fiber deformation and the localized fracture/fragmentation of the matrix• Formulated a hydraulic-mechanical dual lattice model for porous materials and proposed an efficient scheme to simulate the coupling of fluid flow and the solid mechanical response; investigated the coupled deformation and permeability evolution in granular rocks by accounting for pore collapse and grain crushing• Developed mathematical models to quantify the reinforcing effect of micro and nano-scales reinforcements in cementitious composites; conducted numerical simulations by implementing the models using MATLAB• Led the extrusion group in Northwestern’s 3D-Printed Martian Habitat team and competed in NASA’s 3DPrinted Habitat Challenge; Managed an experimental campaign to identify the mechanical properties of Marscrete: a Martian infrastructure material, which is composed of sulphur and Martian regolith• Audience Choice Award in the “My Research in 180 Seconds” competition of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
