"Riding a 40-MPH motorcycle in 14-Fahrenheit rural Beijing, I had no time to feel exhausted with only 190 seconds left to deliver 12 cups of boba tea to the fifth floor." As an aspiring product manager with training in science and technology studies (STS), I approach technology issues through both a critical and constructive lens. My product management experiences at leading Chinese tech firms exposed me directly to the mounting ethical concerns surrounding unbridled technological disruption. However, my foundation in STS also positions me as an insider seeking thoughtful solutions. Having witnessed the human impacts of opaque algorithms, I aim to leverage my tech industry experience and STS scholarship to pose hard questions about emerging technologies while also identifying pathways for more human-centered innovation. My multifaceted vantage point drives me to query not just the societal implications of technologies, but also the institutional priorities and power dynamics that shape their development. Propelled by the insights gleaned from my participant observation, I am committed to building an ethical framework for technology rooted in moral wisdom and justice rather than just efficiency and control.
