I am passionate about interfacing job creation with intelligent, economical, natural processes; high functioning results, minimal disruption to our neighborhoods, businesses, children, the air we breathe, our water sources, the earth from which we harvest our food, and the people who always seem to be left out of the "who do we care about" quotient, the men and woman who do the work. The Grand daughter of a Coal Miner who died of "Miner's Asthma" at 52, I have seen little change in the attitude of mine owners who appear to look purposely away from a multitude of regulations while we have seen more miners dying of "Miner's Asthma" in the 21st century, than in the 30', 40's, and 50's of the 20th century. Miners still needlessly die in totally preventable explosions. And we all know what the deadly particles which poison our air can do hundreds of miles away to our streams, forests, children, elderly; but since we can't see the enemy, it is a hard one to fight. Those brave workers who died when the sugar plant exploded into a hellish ball of fire were wading through fine, powdered, highly explosive sugar in their workplace for years. Where were the people who should have cared enough to do the right thing? The Exxon Valdez still has ugly remnants of its devastating spill on March 24, 1989. We have no idea what the April 20, 2010 explosion of the Oil Rig Deep Water Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico that took 11 lives that day will render on the livelihood of the people who thrived on the bounty of the marshes and the Gulf before 4/20/10.Stormwater, on which we have spent our nation's deficit over the years, collecting it in catch basins, directed into concrete pipes, then into larger concrete pipes, or into canals or huge culverts and dumping, untreated, an enormous toxic mulligatawny stew of dioxins, fertilizer, pet waste & heavy metals - thus taking a small problem, growing it, totally polluted into our waterways. We've been doing it the same way for 3 centuries!
