Cherie Wong (she/her) is a technology executive with 20 years of experience developing products, managing large P&Ls, and leading global teams at Mapbox, Amazon, and PayPal. An agile thinker, quick learner, and practical advisor on scaling growth and transformation in fast-changing industries, she has deep expertise in logistics and operations, consumer e-commerce, fintech, cloud services, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.In her current role as Senior Vice President at Mapbox, Cherie leads ~600 employees around the world that build Mapbox's Maps, Search, Navigation, and Data products and services. Her organization is responsible for innovating on ways that enable customers to have beautiful 3D, HD maps where they can search for points of interest and get real-time, turn-by-turn navigation with additional intelligence through features like MapGPT. Cherie was recruited to Mapbox following a many years at PayPal and Amazon. At PayPal, Cherie led up to ~2,000 employees around the world and owned the core systems for Payments, Pricing, FX, and Finance and Analytics Data Services. Her organization was responsible for optimizing the speed, security, regulatory compliance, and customer experience for money movement as billions of dollars in transactions move daily through PayPal’s global payment systems. At Amazon Web Services, Cherie served as General Manager for Amazon CloudFront, Data Transfer, and the family of Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) services. Before moving to AWS, she played key strategic and operational roles in transforming the search experience for Amazon’s soft goods/fashion marketplace. She oversaw the creation of Amazon Robotics to redesign and scale the company’s order fulfillment. In her many roles at Amazon, she was deeply engaged in M&A strategy and execution. She oversaw technical due diligence for Amazon’s acquisition and integration of Kiva Systems. She led engineering for acquired businesses such as BuyVIP.com and its integration with MyHabit.com.She is an Executive in Residence at the University of Pennsylvania, where she mentors mid-career professionals looking to move into the technology industry. She serves on the board of OneWorld Now!, a nonprofit that promotes global citizenship, diversity, and financial inclusion by teaching accredited language courses that are typically not taught in public schools, study abroad programs, and diversity and leadership courses.
