Manage daily operations of a state virtual school program with 24 full-time and 26 adjunct teachers, 5 administrators, 4 support staff, and over 10,000 students.As a program of the Virginia Department of Education, Virtual Virginia offers online Advanced Placement (AP®), world language, core academic, and elective courses to students across the Commonwealth and nation. Virtual Virginia is committed to providing high-quality, rigorous course content with flexibility to meet the varied schedules and needs of schools and students. Currently 54 courses are offered ranging from Chinese and Arabic to Astronomy to Economics and Personal Finance. The full course list is found at www.virtualvirginia.org. Virtual Virginia works with Virginia public schools to provide students access to courses that are unavailable to them due to low enrollments, scheduling conflicts, and the lack of highly qualified teachers. Virtual Virginia ensures the availability of high quality and rigorous Advanced Placement and world language courses to underserved populations and provides equitable access to educational options throughout Virginia. Courses are delivered via the Internet through a secure, Web-based environment; students may participate at school or at home. The courses promote a high level of interaction among students and teachers. The content is media-rich, interactive, and engaging, and is designed to address different learning styles. The courses contain readings, discussion forums, written assignments, various forms of media, student presentations and projects, case studies, simulations, virtual lab assignments, models, interactivities, and opportunities for collaboration.Currently there are 22,224 half-credit enrollments, including more than 7,000 students enrolled in the Economics and Personal Finance course. There has been nearly a 60 percent increase in half-credit enrollments over the 13,946 half-credit enrollments last year.

Virtual Virginia offers more than fifty online courses to students in the commonwealth. As the Supervisor of Curriculum, my role was to lead teams of content experts and instructional designers in the development of new online courses as well as the review and revision of existing courses. Recent curriculum projects include the development of online Economics and Personal Finance, Advanced Placement Biology, Arabic I and II, and Astronomy courses, as well as a two-volume set of multitouch iBooks, Economics and Personal Finance, which are currently available in the iTunes bookstore.While at the VDOE, I also defined the multi division online provider application and approval process for Virginia; reviewed applications and other submissions from organizations who wished to offer online instruction to Virginia students; and coordinated the content review process for online courses to ensure alignment with the Virginia Standards of Learning.

Richmond, Virginia Area

Provided professional development relating to instructional technology and Web 2.0 tools both face-to-face and online, designed virtual learning opportunities for students and teachers, and provided instruction and professional development around the Challenger Learning Center.

As an Instructional Technology Application Specialist, I planned and conducted professional development involving technology integration for educators. I also designed and delivered online courses both for graduate credit and recertification points for teachers, and administered the Title IID Educational Technology grants for two superintendent's regions in Virginia. In addition, I coordinated Innovate 2007, the emerging technology exposition at the Greater Richmond Convention Center as well as managed the exhibitor process for the Educational Technology Leadership Conference.

As a lead teacher with Hanover County Public Schools, I supervised beginning teachers, designed and conducted professional development for our school, taught technology summer institutes for the county, and held the position of Blackboard administer for our school. I taught science classes both in person and online.
