I co-founded Swing Central Ltd. – a dance business that powers the West Coast Swing dance community in Wellington. My role involves teaching classes, coaching students and making business and marketing decisions.

I am currently a Senior Engineer at Xero, working in the User Experience Engineering team.I work on Xero’s internal Design Systems team (XUI), creating and maintaining reusable React components, styles and documentation, and all that comes with it! I have a passion for user experience and accessibility.Some highlights include:- Leading development research for the re-architecture of our brittle and inaccessible dropdown and list components- Refactoring the keyboard navigation of our dropdown components in line with accessibility pattern guidelines, alongside implementing a gradual rollout pattern to minimise risk- Building a new banner component, collaborating closely with design on requirements and responsive behaviour, and determining the balance between flexibility and consistency for consumers using the component- Building a new component library to sit next to the design system, where product teams can contribute shared components for testing and iteration, prior to potential migration into XUI. I delivered not only the first experimental component, but also the project setup, documentation and boilerplate tooling for creating new components

During my six-month secondment as XUI's Product Owner, I made an impact on our team’s strategy and drove change to address a number of engineering, quality and customer concerns by influencing the wider leadership team to refocus our attention to balance engineering and quality concerns alongside our product roadmap.

As a hospital doctor, my responsibilities included reviewing unwell patients and making a clinical management plan, liaising daily with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure best patient outcomes, and supervising trainee doctors. I developed many key skills, including problem solving, decision making, communication skills and the ability to work in a stressful environment.

During my medical degree, I was a summer research student at the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute for multiple consecutive summers. I undertook laboratory-based and clinical research projects studying Infantile Haemangioma (strawberry birthmarks). This work resulted in multiple journal publications.
