Equality, Diversity And Inclusion Consultant
As the Public Workshops Coordinator at Intersect Madrid, I am on an extraordinary journey of innovation and cultural exchange. Embracing my passion for creativity and education, I am laying a strong foundation for the organization, revolutionizing the way workshops are conducted and introducing a cross-cultural perspective. Breaking barriers, I am one of the pioneers in offering workshops in Spanish, infusing them with artistic viewpoints and captivating content tailored for schools. Our reach extends beyond borders as we collaborate with numerous institutions across Western Europe and the USA, fostering connections and bridging cultural gaps through the power of experiential learning. Together, we open new doors of understanding, empowering students to explore diverse perspectives and engage in transformative educational experiences.
English Language Teacher
Embarking on a transformative journey at I.E.S Jose Saramago, I forged deep and personal connections with the dedicated faculty, staff, administration, and, above all, my incredible students. I worked with secondary students, teaching them English grammar, phonics, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and preparing them for Cambridge speaking exams. However, it was my involvement with the art teacher that truly ignited my passion. Recognizing my skills and dedication, she often sought my assistance and collaboration in creating art projects with the students. Together, we explored various art mediums, techniques, concepts, and art history, nurturing their creativity and artistic development. These experiences affirmed my potential as an art educator and filled me with joy as I witnessed the students' growth and enthusiasm for the arts.
Auxiliar De Conversación
At Eurocolegio Casvi, I had the privilege of working with first, second, and third-grade students, teaching them a variety of subjects in English, including Social Studies, Natural Science, and Math. As part of my role, I created engaging activities, worksheets, and projects that fostered their understanding and enthusiasm for the topics. Additionally, I actively collaborated with their lead teacher, providing support and assistance throughout each unit. One of the highlights of this experience was utilizing my strong cross-cultural communication skills and bilingualism, as I seamlessly switched between Spanish and English to effectively communicate with both teachers and students, ensuring a smooth and inclusive learning environment.
Resident Assistant
Sophomore year I began working as an RA in the biggest dorm on campus. My duties as an RA included upholding college rules and regulations, serving a biweekly duty, logging significant events, and organizing events for residents. I became an RA because I want to inspire others, love different cultural backgrounds and perspectives, and I enjoy connecting people. Being an RA taught me to act on my beliefs that everyone belongs and is welcome to a community, also, that you need to meet people where they are, not where you want them to be.
Diversity And Inclusion Project Assistant
This role was created by Residential Life because of its commitment and my experience in promoting Diversity and Inclusion work. I reviewed evaluation assessments, projects, and workshops for Residential Life staff and residents. Kristyn Bochniak, Director of Residential Life and Education, and I organized focus groups for RAs and residents in the Phelps Scholar Program. This research sheds light on issues in living spaces and ways that we can improve campus culture.
Project Manager
I worked with Vanessa Greene, Assoc. Dean of Students, Dir. Center for Diversity and Inclusion(CDI), as a Project Manager for two years. Professor Greene was marveled by my passion and knowledge of social justice while I was a student in her class during my freshman year. Once I began working with her, we developed the Diversity Training Institute (DTI); a five workshop training on diversity and inclusion. We presented these workshops together for about two years with faculty, staff, students, and community members. I learned a lot about facilitation, leadership, and the ins and outs of project management.
Intern
In 2019, I was eager to work with this Intersect Madrid because its mission is to promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace and Spanish education. As an intern, I helped develop professional workshops, a portfolio of past and current events and attended social gatherings. I made so many connections with people from all over the English and Spanish speaking world, actively participated in the Spanish workforce, became more empathetic, and deepened my knowledge of multicultural education.
Au Pair
While living in Valencia, I worked as a language partner to Rosa, my host mom, in preparation for her ESL exam. From Monday to Saturday we engaged in several long conversations every day. I encouraged her to think in English, as my Spanish teacher had taught me, instead of translating word for word. Rosa taught me just as much as I taught her - in the end, I learned that cultural norms are just as important as grammar.
Academic Tutor
As an academic tutor on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I encouraged local public high school students to build a brighter future for themselves. These students came from low-income households and needed help with coursework and college preparation. I prepared students in Spanish, Physics, Geometry,English Writing and Literature.
