Amathole Triathlon is a Regional sporting body and non-profit organization. It is home to Triathlon (Swim, Cycle, Run) and Duathlon (Run, Cycle, Run) in the Buffalo City and Amathole District. Our ambition was to create opportunity for all to participate in Triathlon and take our place as the region to be reckoned with.As one of the founder members of Amathole Triathlon in 2008, this was a wonderful opportunity to follow one of my passions and get involved in the growth and development of Triathlon in South Africa and more specifically the Eastern Cape. I was there at the onset of Triathlon and worked with the team to grow the region. By 2011 we had developed to the extent that we could employ a permanent General Manager and my application to this position was approved.There is never a dull moment in this sport and my job entailed every aspect of the sport. I assisted athletes to prepare for their events which could be their first local event, SA Champs, Iron Man or even World Champs. Event organising was also an integral part of my job, along with keeping the social media and web sites up to date. The development of previously disadvantaged athletes and Juniors (under 18's) was one of our great achievements, having the best squads in South Africa. The usual board meetings, constantly trying to raise funds and admin would take up the remainder of my time. A position I felt honored to hold and sad to leave..
