Administrator with 20 years’ experience of working within academic medicine (Imperial College London, The Royal Postgraduate Medical School, The Magdi Yacoub Institute: project management; financial management; costing of non-clinical research proposals; facilitating peer-reviewed grant/funding applications; project management, procurement, HR/staff recruitment and retention processes, and the basics of Health and Safety in the Laboratory environment.Research into cardiovascular diseases from tissue engineering heart valves, myocardial regeneration, stem cell therapy and technology to Popeye proteins involved in stress adaptation of cardiac pacemaker activity, is constantly progressing.Cardiovascular disease can affect anyone at any time and it is not always solely linked to smoking, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, being obese or inactive. How you deal with stress may also influence your risk of developing a cardiovascular disease.The Section is funded by various income streams: University/HEFCE; NHS; NIHR Biomedical Research Centre; research councils; charitable funds; and commercially generated income.We currently have over 200 funded non-clinical and clinical research projects ongoing, of which I look after approximately 70 projects.
