As a 3rd and 4th grade combo class teacher in a rural elementary school, I learned a unique way of teaching. I became proficient at juggling 2 sets of curriculum and 2 grade levels. Even though my classroom numbers were 12-16 students, academic rigor and expectations were prioritized while balancing a whole-child approach to teaching and learning. With a 4-day school week, there were additional challenges of keeping children engaged and on-task for an 8-hour school day.
