Elementary School TeacherUpper West Shore Sch Dist 33 Aug 2022 - PresentDayton, MtAs a 3rd and 4th grade combo class teacher in a rural elementary school, I learned a unique way of teaching. I became proficient at juggling 2 sets of curriculum and 2 grade levels. Even though my classroom numbers were 12-16 students, academic rigor and expectations were prioritized while balancing a whole-child approach to teaching and learning. With a 4-day school week, there were additional challenges of keeping children engaged and on-task for an 8-hour school day. Through action research, I developed a flexible schedule that allowed students leadership opportunities, hands-on learning, family-approved, real-world lessons in reading and math, and utilized my resources to get students the help they needed after Covid learning loss.Curriculum used:CKLA AmplifyBoostHMH Math ExpressionsReflex/Frax -

Educator - K-3Clark County School District Aug 2012 - Jul 2018Henderson, NvI taught at Title 1 schools and have a strong understanding of English Language Learners and students with needs in a low socioeconomic demographics. Much of my instruction was centered on spoken and academic vocabulary. Students learned best with the research-proven methods of using picture support and role playing. I strived to engage learners with quality instruction through close reads, peer to peer interactions, and intensive phonics/language lessons. For math I encouraged hands-on learning with manipulatives and modeling of word problems through acting out the scenarios. I frequently thought outside the box to communicate new ways for learners to grasp concepts. Problem solving and adjustment of curriculum/lessons was the norm. I wrote and received a STEM grant for solar cooking and used this project based learning module for grades 1-3.• Devised mathematical examples that kids understood• Attended to precision through gathering of data• Presented mathematical models and visual displays to deepen understanding• Investigated methods to assist in remediation and acceleration in both reading and math• Implemented Kathy Richardson math stations• Encouraged hands-on learning• Created and facilitated Project Based Learning modules• Taught FOSS Science using investigations• Implemented Barton Method for reading remediation and tutoring• Researched methods to teach students with Dyslexia• Established Kagan structures for cooperative learning• Participated in team collaboration and research for learning difficulties• Facilitated weekly PLCs (Professional Learning Community)• Organized digital and role-playing simulations• Researched methods to teach students with Dyslexia in order to inform instruction• Thrived with strong working partnerships in lesson creation and sharing -
