About Cheryl Abla
I believe deeply in all students’ capacity to achieve at high levels and I'm passionate about helping educators use their full potential to make a positive impact on students. I provide professional learning and coaching of K–12 teachers and school leaders on effective instructional strategies, problem-based learning, classroom technology, teacher coaching, English-language-learner supports, and processes to create engaging and inviting climates where students and educators enjoy walking into the school each day. I've taught grades 1–12 for over twenty years; served as a national facilitator for the FACES, Inc. charter education program; and was the director of both a Parents as Teachers district program and a Migrant Education Even Start district program. Drawing on my extensive and diverse classroom experience, I've presented at educational conferences around the United States and the Pacific. Senior Managing Consultant
CurrentAs a managing consultant, I assist schools and districts in their quest to increase student achievement through consulting, coaching, and facilitating workshops designed to address their needs. I believe deeply that all students’ capacity to achieve at high levels. I am passionate about helping educators use their full potential to make a positive impact on the students they educate and inspire every day. I enjoy developing workshops and trainings for K‒12 teachers on research-based instructional strategies within instructional technology, English Language learners, Project -Based Learning, and culture and climate. I also provide consultation for technology integration, technology leadership, and Power Walkthrough®, McREL’s classroom observation software. Prior to joining McREL, I taught grades 1–12 for over 20 years, served as a regional coordinator and national facilitator for a character education program and was the director of Parents as Teachers district program. I've presented at educational conferences around the U.S., specifically in the areas of innovative classroom instruction and digital learning.My enthusiasm for education, coupled with my extensive and diverse classroom experiences, ensure that participants walk away with practical ideas that can be immediately implemented in their schools.

I have taught grades fourth, fifth and sixth at both Sedalia Elementary and Clear Sky Elementary. Using 21st Century skills to bring collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking to everything we did. Project based learning creates the hands-on environment that fits my teaching style. When my students walk in the door they know what to begin working on and have a real sense of achievement as they complete their projects and showcase them to an authentic audience. My students know the purpose behind attending school and they also know my expectations are set quite high for them. Students in my classroom know I never give up on them and will help them any time they need it.
