As an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Dr. Ryan Smith Entomology Lab, I explored the world of Arboviruses in mosquito populations. I researched the immune system response of mosquitos and the infection mechanisms of viruses including Dengue, West Nile Virus, and Zika, as well as conducted CRISPR-Cas9 editing to manipulate the genome and compare the efficiency to microinjection techniques.

As a genomics intern, I was able to analyze large-scale NGS human genetic data using Python programming and bioinformatics software packages. I also learned how to manipulate genetic database entries in BAM, VCF, and FASTQ file formats. I assisted in the research and development of a proprietary method to organize and evaluate specific human large-scale NGS data, determine genomic target regions using bioinformatics techniques, and apply statistics for desired output.
