I have over 25 years of experience in grant writing, program evaluation, and data analysis. My areas of expertise include analysis of complex data, predictive analytics, grant writing and program evaluation. I served as the Director of the Regional Resource Center on Deafness for 14 years and am a developer of the Transition Competency Battery for Deaf Adolescents and Young Adults, the only test of transition skills for Deaf youth that has been standardized and normed on the target population.I am excited to have the opportunity to be a part of a highly successful and experienced team to provide support to WESD’s P-20 partners in landing grants for special projects and to assist programs and projects in their evaluation efforts. It is a pleasure to work with partners who are genuinely interested in using evidence-based practices to positively impact outcomes for students, personnel, and systems.

As Director of the Regional Resource Center on Deafness, I oversee six grants and one contract totaling $1.1 million per year. The Center currently has Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) and Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) grants supporting students in our American Sign Language/English Interpreting BA, Rehabilitation Counselor Education MS, and Rehabilitation Counseling with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Adults Certificate professional preparation programs. In addition, we have two outreach and technical assistance projects (the Western Region Interpreter Education Center (WRIEC), funded by RSA, and pepnet 2 Technical Assistance, contracted through California State University, Northridge). WOU offers other deafness-related professional preparation programs without grant support: the Master of Arts in Interpreting, the American Sign Language Studies Bachelor’s program, and three full years of American Sign Language (ASL I-IX). WOU is also home to the Center on Sensory Disabilities at The Research Institute.I coordinated the Rehabilitation Counseling with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Adults summer certificate program, funded by a grant from the Rehabilitation Services Administration. I specialize in educating consumers and service providers about the communication access needs of individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, and deafblind.

As coordinator of the PEPNet Outreach Site at Western Oregon University (previously the WROCC Outreach Site and the Northwest Outreach Center), I provided technical assistance to postsecondary institutions, vocational rehabilitation, and other adult services providers on communication access options for individuals who are hard of hearing or deaf. This included phone and e-mail consultation, materials development, trainings, presentations, and satellite telecasts.

Over the years I held various positions at Teaching Research (now Teaching Research Institute), from part time data consultant to full time Research Assistant. I assisted in data analysis on many grant projects, but spent most of my time here working with Mike Bullis and John Reiman on grants related to the Transition Competency Battery for Deaf Adolescents and Young Adults. I feel lucky to have worked on the early development of the video test battery items, data collection and analysis (including travel to schools for the deaf and deaf programs across the country), and development of the test in videotape, videodisk, and computerized adaptive testing formats.
