Al-Nisa Maternity Home is a private midwife run facility providing antenatal care. The ultrasound unit provides an affordable ultrasound service for any patient requiring a scan for pregnancy or gynaecological reasons. Ultrasound services I provide at Al-Nisa includes dating scans, 1st trimester screening scans (NT scan), detailed fetal anatomy scan, growth scans and fetal well being scans. All patients are welcome as we aim to provide an affordable service to those who are not on medical aid and cannot always afford the rising costs of medical care. Patients attending government clinics are also welcome.

Early pregnancy scans to determine viability and gestational age.Accreditation with Fetal Medicine Foundation to do first trimester screening using Nuchal Translucency, Nasal bone and Ductus Venosus. This screening also includes an early detailed anatomy scan to assess early fetal development and exclude any major anatomical abnormalities. Experience in counselling patients on their risks for chromosomal abnormalities thereby facilitating them in making their choices with regard to screening tests or diagnostic tests.Extensive experience in the detailed fetal anatomy scan, including fetal echocardiography, fetal and maternal Doppler examinations in both singleton and multiple pregnancies.Experience in fetal growth/third trimester scans including fetal Doppler such as Umbilical Artery Doppler, Middle Cerebral Doppler and Ductus Venosus Doppler.I work side by side with Dr Linnie Muller when examining, counselling and consulting patients with fetal abnormalities, complicated pregnancies and diagnostic procedures.I assist patients with queries related to their pregnancy, scans that they require and appropriate timing for scans.

Obstetric and Gynecological ultrasound examinations done, clinical teaching of studentsDuring my time in this department I gained tremendous experience in obstetric and gynaecology ultrasound. Examinations included were dating scans, first trimester screening, detailed fetal anatomy scans, growth scans including Doppler examinations in both singleton and multiple pregnancies. I was involved in the process of assessing patients referred for fetal abnormalities, involved in the scanning, counselling and follow-up processes.I had the responsibility of teaching and mentoring sonography students, this included lectures, clinical assessments and tests. I also assisted in teaching many obstetric registrars.Other responsibilities included equipment maintenance, general departmental problem solving and assisting with appointments.
