Provided high-level counsel to Executive Management regarding engagement of policymakers, business leaders, academics, editorial and opinion writers and other influentials on critical issues of importance to Americans over 50.I developed and oversaw implementation of AARP's strategy to engage opinion leaders in productive discussion of the pressing issues facing older Americans and their families. I produced over-subscribed national forums on Women's Financial Security and Healthcare Transparency and engaged personally with editorial boards, TV and print media in 28 states, garnering significant media coverage.I led an effort with the White House in which AARP co-sponsored and produced five regional forums across the country (Tampa, Phoenix, Seattle, Cleveland and Boston) that built content and support for the 2015 White House Conference on Aging. These day long forums (involving 80 staff nationwide) heard from 1000+ in person participants and 10,000+ on-line attendees covering developments in four critical areas: Healthcare, Financial Security, Long-Term Care and Elder Justice/Fraud.

Responsible for AARP public policy research, analysis and policy development for 10 months after retirement of long time EVP. Provided high-level counsel to CEO, Board of Directors and executive management during critical transition. • I directed the 80 person staff with $16m budget and improved interaction between Policy and other groups. I also shepherded key Medicare and Social Security Reform policy deliberations by the AARP Board of Directors. • I developed a new strategy for International Affairs, downsized the department, reassigned staff and reduced overall expenses by $1m.• My work was recognized with an award for Outstanding Contribution.

Coordinated the development of AARP’s public policy agenda. I regularly briefed AARP Board of Directors and the CEO to ensure strategic alignment with other AARP functions and to enhance the Association’s reputation with external audiences. • I was appointed by the CEO to lead AARP’s effort to engage influential leaders in productive discussion of options to strengthen Medicare and Social Security. In that function, I oversaw development of non-partisan “options” booklets and promotion to media outlets nationwide. I also conceived and executed a series of live expert broadcasts to all 53 AARP state offices, which engaged 500+ local influentials.

Recruited to lead the health group in AARP’s newly established Office of Social Impact, which was created to bring together all of AARP's capabilities to achieve social change. I directed the development of AARP’s overall Social Impact Health Strategy through integrated Association-wide annual and multi-year plans. I hired and mentored a team of experts and directed the creation and administration of the budget for all AARP health-related efforts, and drove successful plan execution. • I directed AARP’s Health Reform Campaign (2009-2010) and AARP’s Medicare Part D Education and Implementation Campaign (2005-2006). • My accomplishments were recognized with an award for Outstanding Contribution.
