Plan and implement careful cutover of existing features and build new features into an app (greenfield in late 2019). This new app is extracting the fee calculation and aggregation portion out of the preexisting Rails app to allow merchants more granular insight into fee data while maintaining new customer growth and volume of traffic. (Spring Boot, Kotlin, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Kafka, AWS)Support and enhance a long-running Ruby on Rails app that calculates merchant fees per their individual pricing agreements, performs currency conversions, aggregates totals, moves money accurately, and generates reports for thousands of merchants. Merchants include Uber, Bill Pay, Invoice Cloud, Paymentus, Accenture, Stitch Fix, and AirBnB.Support a highly variable daily transaction volume in the millions per day, fee volume in the billions, and operate in many regions across the world.Led a squad of 6 engineers on project work with support from a manager and tech lead. Including thoughtful cross-team solution discovery, building consensus on complex implementation strategies, and developing thorough plans for testing and cutover. This is in addition to implementing the technical details within my team’s responsibilities.Organized rotations and policies for on call support coverage. Served this rotation 2 out of every 5 weeks, including round the clock pages.Contribute to setting technical strategy and standards for project completion and code quality. Fizziology is an international market research and analytics firm, using human-first analysis to better understand audiences and empower faster decision-making. Fizz tracks massive amounts of data and performs analytics for several domains including movies, sports, brands, and tourism.While maintaining existing products including an internal-facing Ruby on Rails application, I build projects to enable analysts to make targeted queries using ElasticSearch, GraphQL, and MySQL. The UI is partially in React.JS with the rest in Rails. I've integrated with several external APIs and built several stand-alone services to incorporate new data sources for analyst consumption. I am constantly implementing new ways to empower the analysts to deliver insights to clients as fast as possible. I also utilized technologies including Sidekiq and Redis to automate work flows realizing a significant cost savings.While providing client value at every step, my focus has also been on empowering developer team size growth by modernizing and upgrading dependencies, greatly expanding documentation, and building a testing strategy including the addition of an automated test suite and linting. Developed and maintained applications that powers tech jobs and education initiatives across the United States. Built a system primarily using Ruby On Rails, Ember.js, AWS, and Elasticsearch.Students and job candidates submit applications through the website. LaunchCode staff evaluate them, accept them into programs, and track their progress. Staff perform weighted searches to select candidates to connect with jobs that are a good fit.Built new features that allowed the organization to scale from 2,500 candidates in St. Louis with all information stored in Google Sheets to over 60,000 users in six cities.Collaborated on growing the tech team from three to 10 members.
