About Cheslyn Jacobs

I didn’t have a perfect start to life, but it did teach me the perfect lesson: success comes from showing up and giving your best, no matter what. That belief has shaped my life and continues to guide the lessons I teach my children and teams today - effort and persistence matter more than results. I grew up in conditions familiar to so many South Africans - scarce resources and limited opportunities. But I was determined to carve out a different path. University was a turning point, though not without challenges. I started in the wrong degree, fought for a change, and eventually balanced full-time work with night classes to graduate. Along the way, my wife, Janine, became my greatest ally and motivator, pushing me to focus on building a future I could be proud of. That same resilience has defined my career. As Chief Commercial Officer at TymeBank, I bring a relentless drive to ensure that others, regardless of their starting point in life, have access to the tools they need to succeed. My journey has taught me that opportunity isn’t always given - it’s created. Over the past 11 years, I’ve dedicated my career to closing the financial literacy gap and building inclusive systems for people traditionally excluded from the financial system. At TymeBank, we simplify banking to make it transparent, accessible, and impactful. Whether it’s empowering young people to start their savings journey, helping families navigate financial risks, or supporting entrepreneurs in building sustainable businesses, we’re proving that banking can be a force for good. Education is at the heart of everything I do. As a Teach the Nation board member, I’ve seen how knowledge transforms lives. Education empowers people to challenge systems, rewrite their futures, and create meaningful and generational change. It’s not just about teaching people skills - it’s about giving them the tools to take control of their lives. Outside of the office, I’m a triathlete, and the discipline it takes to train mirrors the principles I live by: resilience, focus, and the drive to be better every day. But above all, I’m a father. My family is my greatest accomplishment and the reason I push so hard to leave behind a legacy of empowerment and possibility. South Africa has immense potential. If we provide the tools, knowledge, and access, there’s no limit to what we can achieve, and I’m here to help create systems that empower and include more people. Let’s work together to make that vision a reality.

Chief Commercial Officer (Cco)

Current

South Africa

As Chief Commercial Officer at TymeBank, I lead our mission to redefine banking in South Africa by delivering growth through customer-focused, inclusive, and innovative financial solutions. My role involves overseeing all commercial operations and ensuring our products empower customers, bridge financial literacy gaps, and create real, lasting value. TymeBank’s success lies in its ability to disrupt traditional banking norms while designing solutions that address South Africa’s unique financial needs. This mission has been at the heart of my journey with TymeBank for the past decade. Starting as National Field Operations Manager, I was tasked with managing physical sales and service channels nationwide. My focus was on creating seamless interactions between physical and digital platforms and designing innovative distribution models that brought banking closer to underserved communities. As Head of Money Transfer, I built on this foundation by simplifying financial transactions, making them more accessible and convenient for customers. This role deepened my commitment to finding solutions to the financial challenges that many South Africans face daily. Later, as Head of Sales and Service, I led the development and execution of TymeBank’s national strategy. My team and I worked to create transformative service models that blended physical and digital banking experiences, ensuring every interaction was simple, accessible, and impactful. These efforts helped establish TymeBank as a trusted financial partner for millions. From designing alternative banking systems to fostering a more inclusive financial future, my journey at TymeBank has been defined by a commitment to empowering South Africans. Together, we are proving that banking can go beyond transactions - it can create opportunities, transform lives, and inspire progress.
