About Che Webster

Being one of those people who wants to make a difference, I've spent most of my life seeking to fit in where I can be most useful. Having decided to take a big risk, I entered the teaching profession and left behind a successful business career. I have been very fortunate to have found a school in which I feel at home. Not only am I allowed to pass on my passion for Comparative Religion, Ethics and Philosophy to teenage minds, teaching KS3/4/5, I am also privileged to offer pupils support as a tutor. My past teaching experience includes KS3/4 English and PSHCE in addition to Religious Education. My previous roles as a school-wide Professional Development Coach (for colleagues seeking to improve their pedagogy) and as a ITT Co-ordinator also stand me in good stead. My past includes recruitment, outplacement consultancy, web marketing, retail management, events management, customer service, project management, and team management. I have experience of training, coaching, and teaching based on a commitment to serve my students and colleagues, helping them to achieve their goals in a positive manner. Long term I seek to develop my teaching and leadership skills, and am happy to do so from the trenches. Perhaps, in some future incarnation, I will once again be invited to lead a team.Someone once said I was a "completer-finisher", but they obviously only saw the good stuff. Apparently, I also make good tea.

Listed skills include Leadership, Training, Coaching, Management, and 41 others.

Head Of Religious Education

Current

Mansfield, England, United Kingdom

A new role designing an exciting and innovative RE curriculum in a community school with a strong track record. Building on my experiences elsewhere, I am seeking to create a community of discovery where students can feel accepted and explore their personal knowledge, spirituality, and learn about world faiths.

Aug 2022 - Present

Teacher Of Humanities

Teacher Activ
Apr 2022 - Aug 2022

Teacher Of Religious Education

Minster School

Southwell, Nottinghamshire

Building on the successes enjoyed at my previous school, I was invited to join a much larger RE team in a highly-respected comprehensive in Nottinghamshire. Although a rural school, Minster is has a very large catchment and is home to some 1650+ pupils. My role includes acting as a form tutor while teaching RE across KS3, KS4, and KS5. While I am able to continue the successes enjoyed with GCSE, I am also teaching AS/A2 Philosophy, Ethics and Development of Christian Thought. My aim is to continue to develop the P4C and experiential approaches that I have championed throughout my career, helping students deepen their understanding and achieve their goals.

Sep 2014 - Apr 2022

Teacher Of Religious Education

Granville Sports College

Woodville, Derbyshire

Having completed teacher training through late 2010 and early 2011, I was recruited as a specialist teacher for RE, aiming to develop an experiential and enquiry-based syllabus for Year 7 to Year 11. Over this period I consistently delivered high-quality GCSE RE, evidenced by pupils achieving 65% A*-A grades in 2012/13.The context of a small, rural secondary school in south Derbyshire was one that suited me well, allowing me to teach every student across all year groups. In 2012, I was asked to step-up and teach English in addition to RE - a great experience which carried through into 2013/14 too. My role included being a form tutor, re-designing the RE syllabus, and introducing GCSE RS. In 2013, however, I was appointed additional TLR as both a Teaching Coach and the school's ITT Co-ordinator. A successful year included working with 7 colleagues to improve their teaching practice and supporting 5 new teachers in their training.

Jul 2011 - Aug 2014

Jobswot.Com Editor

Newton Stanley Next Steps Ltd

Having been asked to set-up the Jobswot.com initiative, and having got that blog live in February 2010, I was asked to continue working as the Editor. This was a great honour and I relished every moment.Jobswot is a website focused on providing practical help and guidance for people who want to find themselves a new job. Originally aimed at those suffering redundancy we now realise that it's really for anyone who wants to take the initiative and get a great new role. For me personally, this was a deeper journey into the wondrous world of social networking and web publication. Every day was a fresh new challenge and I found myself enjoying the ongoing interactions that each day would bring. Some of the best days were when a seemingly random connection online would lead to the opportunity to coach somebody, and see them go on to find a job they were excited about.

Feb 2010 - Aug 2010

Consultant Researcher

Newton Stanley Ltd

I used to be a Headhunter. But I'm alright now.Why on earth was I working in recruitment? I joined because Richard, the MD, offered me an opportunity to talk with people and take the time to offer them a potentially positive career step. I stayed because, contrary to my general expectations of recruitment, I found a team who are committed not only to delivering results but doing so in a pleasant and genuine manner. Courtesy and respect for each person, internal or external, is paramount within this organisation. Those are values that I prize highly and which motivated me to win solutions for the organisations and individuals we worked with.My role grew over time to include supporting the team of 4 other Researchers, getting my feet wet with operational matters, and dabbling with producing marketing material.

Nov 2006 - Apr 2010

Community & Events Operations Manager

Apprenticed under the great Tony Cottrell, I became an Events Manager in 1998 before taking full responsibility for the UK's largest wargames hobby event - Games Day. On top of all the events, I undertook investigations into developing a customer support programme for UK Hobby Clubs, which led to my role expanding to deliver the proposed plan. By 2000 I was managing circa 30 national events, working with around 30 customer clubs, and generally getting stressed enough to persuade the boss to hire some staff. Ended my tenure as Operations Mgr for a team of 10 staff, supporting an Events Team of 3 people, a field-based Hobby Support Team of 5, line-managing an Administrator, and helping my boss stay sane(ish). Oh, and I did some marketing, writing for White Dwarf, game development playtesting, and generally ate too many cooked breakfasts as well.

Jul 1998 - Aug 2006

Retail Hobby Store Manager

Managed the Romford store for 11 mnths and then, rather surprisingly, got promoted to manage the Thurrock Lakeside store. My tenure lifted Lakeside from 75th to 11th place out of the then 75 stores, and we held it within the Top 20 for 3 years. I look back on one of the best teams I ever had the opportunity to create, and the formation of some really rich, long-term friendships that have endured the years.Moved when I was offered a role at HQ as Events Manager in 1998, taking the promotion and opportunity that (in hindsight) was one of the biggest turning-points in my life.

Apr 1994 - Jul 1998

Assistant Restaurant Manager

Burger King Uk (Cairnserve Ltd)

Recruited from my earlier part-time customer service role at a McDonald's franchise, I joined a Burger King franchise. Managed shift teams, led training, and was seconded to Lewisham to cover for the Restaurant Manager in mid-1993 for a couple of months. I was proud of the teams I led, gaining repeatedly positive mystery shopper reports, and left when the opportunity arose to leave fast-food and try my hand in specialist retailing with Games Workshop.
