I am an innovator working to apply synthetic biology and emerging technology to solve some of the hardest challenges facing public health and national security. My team aims to quickly develop, optimize, and transition solutions to meet critical end user objectives. I manage the biological sciences group within the CBRNE Sciences business area at Signature Science. I also serve as a Lead Molecular Biologist for the company and a Science and Technology Advisor. My roles encompass the full extent of the business capture and program execution process:• Technology innovation and synthesis of novel ideas to solve client challenges• Identification and leadership of internal research and development initiatives in biological sciences • Management of opportunities in CRM software and alignment of marketing strategies with technical capabilities• Proposal capture ranging from commercial test and evaluation opportunities to multi-institution Federal Government research programs (BAAs and RFPs) as the prime contractor• Principal investigator (PI) of projects focused on synthetic biology, microbial and human forensics, and public health pathogen detection programs• Program management (PM) of multi-disciplinary, multi-institution teams on federally-funded research programsI believe that synthetic biology and emerging molecular techniques can be applied to solve a huge array of challenges across the world. Within that scope, my current research has focused on several key areas: • Human forensics – how can we use molecular techniques to gather more genetic information to maximize the data from a trace forensic sample? • Pathogen detection for microbial forensics and clinical diagnostics – how can we identify biological organisms in a clinical or environmental in an agent agnostic manner? • Synthetic biology – how can we rapidly transition major synthetic biology innovations into tools that have an impact in the clinic or in the field? • Biosystems engineering – how can we construct cost-effective, reliable devices, tools, and surrogate materials that simplify sample preparation and regulatory burdens on researchers?
