About Cheyanna Johnson
I am a first-generation college graduate of Berea College, originally from McArthur, Ohio. In 2008, the recession hit my family hard and we relied upon the charitable sector to help us get back on our feet. During that time, I developed a passion for giving back to those that so graciously helped us. At Berea College, I learned more about service and why it is so important that we recognize systemic problems that keep families in generational poverty. After graduation, I was fortunate to be able to combine my passions with my career when I accepted a position with Feeding America as a Child Hunger Corps member. During my time in the Child Hunger Corps, I was placed at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida in Orlando to build capacity and research community needs for child hunger programming. In my time at Second Harvest, I worked diligently alongside community partners, schools, and families to develop the School Market Program. The School Market Program created grocery-store style markets in high school and middle schools to combat teen and family food insecurity. After the Child Hunger Corps service term ended in 2018, I was hired by Second Harvest to manage the program I had helped create. By December 2020, the School Market Program had distributed over 1 million meals throughout Central Florida. To date, the program has continued to grow with a recent historic award of $1 million to provide fresh and nutritious food for families with children and teens during the school year and summer. In December 2020, I accepted a position with Feeding America to work as a Programs Specialist for the Child and Family Programs Team and, in February 2022, I was promoted to Senior Specialist, Programs. In January 2023, I was promoted to Manager, Access Capacity Services. In my role with Access Capacity Services, I continue to support network efforts to improve food access through child and family hunger interventions. The Access Capacity Services team is part of the broader Network Access Services Team, where we work alongside partner food banks to address systemic barriers keeping families with children and teens from accessing the food they want and need to thrive. As a team, our mission is to advance network efforts to address disproportionate food access in rural communities and communities of color.I look forward to connecting with you!
