•Researched an independent project that assessed UWL College of Science & Health students level of awareness of PFAS contamination in Wisconsin through a Qualtrics survey•Presented at Midwest Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), the regional chapter of SETAC North America •Collaborate with other research assistants to collect data based on observing the health outcomes and the effects that neonicotinoid exposure in zebrafish has on the immune system by reporting survival, death, and physical changes •Assist with zebrafish experiments that involves dosing spawned and collected eggs with neonicotinoids, such as imidacloprid and thiamethoxam, on a 96-well plate and daily water changes to ensure accurate concentration of pesticide is maintained•Aide in weekly fish care tasks including prepping a brine shrimp solution to feed fish twice per day, monitoring temperature changes and dissolved oxygen levels, recording fish behavior daily, and weekly water changes to maintain clean fish tanks

I collected blood samples by venipuncture on clinic patients. My responsibilities included blood draws, urine collection, vaginal swabs, fecal collections, fasting blood glucose draws for pregnant women, blood glucose readings, INR readings using a coagulation machine, as well as calibration of the devices used. I was in charge of informing patients how to properly collect take home labs. Other responsibilities included employee drug testing by urine collection. Ages ranged from 1 year olds to geriatric patients.

I also had to collect blood samples from walk-in patients, pre- and post-operative patients, renal dialysis patients, ICU patients, and trauma patients from the Emergency Department. My responsibilities also included capillary heel sticks on 0-6 month old babies, as well as capillary blood gas collection. I was not limited to the occasional blood glucose readings for pre-operative patients as well.

As a lab assistant to the UWL lab manager, I helped maintain cleanliness of the lab classrooms and making sure they were fully stocked with supplies needed for each course. I aided in the check in and check out process of chemicals by using an inventory software system while also checking out any lab supplies needed for students. I also dealt with checking in the mail inventory and dispersing them to research professors as needed.
