About Chindu Sreedharan
Chindu Sreedharan is the Professor of Journalism and Innovation at Bournemouth University, where he also leads the MA Multimedia Journalism programme.Chindu began his career with The Sunday Observer in New Delhi before joining India's original news portal, Rediff.com, in 1996, where he worked as a roving editor, focusing on conflict and terrorism reportage. Until 2003, he was Associate Editor for Rediff.com and its New York-based affiliates, India Abroad and India in New York.Chindu oversaw Rediff's Jammu & Kashmir coverage and reported on the 1999 India-Pakistan war from Kargil, among other significant news events. He helped launch Rediff Diary, which captured some of the first citizen journalism pieces in the world, and edited Rediff Specials, the outlet's indepth reporting projects. His own reportage from this time includes multi-chapter digital productions such as Blood in the Snow, The World of Wheelchairs, and Karl and the Kalashnikov, and a range of in-depth Q&As with political personalities and rare, face-to-face interviews with Maoist and Kashmiri insurgent leaders.At BU, Chindu helps shape the intersection of journalism with technology, exploring how new advancements can ethically enhance 'news work' and pedagogy. His recent focus is the responsible use of Generative AI in journalism, and he works with news professionals and educators internationally to explore emerging policies and practices. As Programme Leader for the MA Multimedia Journalism, he oversees one of the UK’s first journalism courses that dynamically integrates AI into its curriculum, equipping the next generation of journalists with the skills needed to navigate the evolving media landscape.Chindu is an Aurora mentor for Advance HE. He currently serves as advisor to Confluence Media and the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists. Other significant leadership roles he has undertaken include heading Connect India, BU's Global Engagement for South Asia; and leading multi-institutional research and capacity building interventions in Sierra Leone, India, and Nepal in partnership with UNESCO and news networks. Chindu serves as external examiner for PhD programmes and taught journalism courses at several UK universities.
