Ching Lee was born on 24 November 1991 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. After completing his studies in the Department of Architecture and Environmental Design at Shu-Te University in 2014, between 2014 to 2015, he completed his mandatory military service in the National Army of Taiwan. Lee began his postgraduate studies in the Department of Architecture at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Tainan, Taiwan, pursuing a master’s degree in Architectural History and Cultural Heritage Conservation in 2016. From 2017 to 2018, he participated in a research project on “Reconstruction of the Ground Plan of Zeelandia City in Taiwan in the Mid-1640s” with his supervisor. His master’s research topics related to the idea of urban planning in the 17th-century Dutch theoretician Simon Stevin’s De Huysbou and its influence; he learned Modern Dutch and Old Dutch to analyze historical maps and conduct independent research. Upon receiving his MA in Architectural History in 2018, he pursued his Ph.D. research at NCKU. Between 2019 to 2020, he participated in the Tainan City Government’s Chikan Tower investigation and research case and its related exhibition; he also participated in the special exhibition “Settling on the Sandbar: The Fort and City of Zeelandia in the 17th-century Formosa” at the NCKU Museum in 2021. Ching Lee is currently (2022) a Ph.D. Candidate and research assistant, Department of Architecture, NCKU.
