This role has offered me the unique opportunity of both designing & implementing the cloud solutions that are a key component of Machfu's service offerings in the Industrial IoT space. These solutions are designed for ingesting, processing, storing and visualizing IoT data collected on a massive scale from field sensors that monitor customer assets. Device management is also addressed, without which no IoT solution can be deemed complete.These solutions leverage quite a few popular cloud services offered by AWS, Azure and GCP such as AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub, GCP PubSub, Kubernetes (EKS, AKS, GKE), SQL and NoSQL databases (RDS, DynamoDB, CloudSQL), serverless and event driven compute services (Lambda, Azure Functions, Cloud Run), Load Balancers, messaging and notification services (SQS, Service Bus, SNS) etc.I have also designed the solutions to be built and deployed using all the modern DevOps principles such as CI (via AWS CodeBuild, GitHub Actions etc), CD (via GitOps Flux v2) and also IaC (via Terraform)I am also responsible for guiding the development of various applications that run on Machfu's field devices. These applications facilitate the collection of data from a multitude of Bluetooth, LoRa and wired industrial sensors and upload it to the cloud platform to be processed by the above-mentioned cloud solutions.

In this role, I was involved with the platform development of Machfu's Android based IIoT application gateway.The customized Android platform frees the user from the need to address the underlying hardware, network connectivity, security, upgrade etc. and focus solely on implementing the business logic associated with their IIoT applications. The application development time is thus reduced significantly.Over the course of a couple of years, I played a significant part in the following efforts:1. Porting native (C/C++) industrial protocol stacks for Modbus, DNP3 etc and developing Android service APIs (Java) for the same. This allows developers to write Android applications for industrial devices using Android Studio IDE. 2. Writing Android (headless) applications for various Bluetooth (BLE & Classic) industrial sensors.3. Adding support for interfacing with Inductive Automation's Ignition platform in order to enable development of HMI based SCADA backend.4. Continuously enhancing the security (of various layers) of the Machfu platform by providing support for SELinux, highly optimized multi-zone IP firewall, end to end communication security via SSL and IPsec VPNs) .5. Interfacing with various LTE and 3G cellular modems (configuration, PPP link setup, collecting RSSI /BER statistics) which provide the backhaul interface for the Machfu gateway in many industrial deployments.

As part of CAPTIVA, I was involved in various consulting projects for clients such as GE, AT&T and Mueller Systems.1. Development of an embedded device for facilitating management of street lights over the cellular network. Work involved porting the FreeRTOS OS and Lightweight IP stack to a STM32F2 micro-controller, modifying the STM32 USB CDC driver and developing a FreeRTOS task to control the Telit LE910 cell modem.2. Development of a Smart-Grid/AMI system for remote management (reading & configuring) residential and commercial electric meters. My contribution was the implementation of the software/firmware running on the embedded device attached to the meters. The tasks involved porting the RTEMS real time OS and Lightweight IP stack on an STM32F4 micro-controller and developing various OS tasks for cell modem control, system upgrade etc. 3. Development of a Transmission Leak Detection (TransLD) system for monitoring water transmission lines. The embedded device consisted of a single board computer (TS4200) running Angstrom linux. The sensor data was sent to the back-end system over UDP/IP via a cellular network. Remote management of the application was achieved using SNMP. DTLS was used to encrypt all traffic. I contributed to the development of multiple linux programs communicating via RPC to achieve the above-mentioned functionality.

Embedded Software Development (Smart-Grid):- Development of the wireless mesh network stack used in Cooper's AMI deployments (e.g. modifications to routing layer to reduce routing overhead, fixing memory leaks, reducing code size, efficient dynamic memory allocation using block allocation schemes, reducing connection latencies)- Implementation of parts of the Bluetooth HCI and L2CAP layers of the host stack.- Porting of code base to STR-7, STR-9 and OKi microcontrollers (included device driver development for UARTs, I2C, RTC, SPI, EMI, Flash etc., cpu specific linker scripts, use of various cross tool chains for compilation, disassembly, sizing etc.) - Implementation of meter protocols (e.g. C12.18, C12.19) for ANSI meters (GE-I210, GE-KV etc.)
