Dr. Chip Chambers is a senior physician executive and clinical/academic surgeon with more than 22 years of progressive leadership experience and proven management skills across the entire healthcare spectrum. He has 12 and ½ years of service as the Tennessee Senior Medical Director and National Medical Director of Medical Policy & Innovation for Cigna Medicare. In his role in Cigna Medicare, he was part of the Senior Leadership Team, and a valued participant in all aspects of the health plan including budgets, bids, market expansion, broker engagement, STARs, IPA management, talent assessment, mentoring, hospital engagement, and development of strategic medical cost savings initiatives, many of which went on to be scaled across Cigna Medicare. In 2021, Dr. Chambers assumed a new role in Cigna Commercial as the Market Medical Executive in the MidAmerica Market. In his new role, he will work with the Market President and the entire MidAmerica team on all aspects of Cigna’s commercial business operations.Earlier in his career, Dr. Chambers was Assistant Professor of Surgery, Chief of Endocrine Surgery, and Director of the Endocrine Surgery Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He continues to hold a clinical faculty appointment at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and occasionally lecturing in the Department of Surgery and Owens Business School at Vanderbilt.In his spare time, he is the Founder and President of the non-profit the DADA2 Foundation www.dada2.org. Dr. Chambers and his wife formed the Foundation in 2016 shortly after their two children were diagnosed with the rare disease Deficiency of Adenosine Deaminase 2 (DADA2) in the same year the disease was discovered, 2014. The DADA2 Foundation forms productive and innovative partnerships between clinicians, researchers, biotech, pharma, and patients – all working together with shared goals. He is a compelling advocate for rare disease patients, a tireless networker, and the co-author of multiple scientific papers on DADA2. Most recently, he was appointed by the Governor of Tennessee to the newly created Rare Disease Advisory Council.
