In this position my main responsibility was to assist in gathering data on the current state of Wilson County in order to identify areas of need within the community. This included:- Facilitating focus groups in order to gather qualitative data on stigma surrounding substance abuse, local access to treatments, and perceived barriers/strengths of the county- Conducting interviews with other health departments and data tracking organizations in order to implement new ways of having local real time data on overdoses- Researching public datasets to gather the most recent information about the current state of the area- Compiling our resources and formatting the final draft of our community needs assessment in an easy to read and informative designThis job provided an opportunity for me to see how local government can work together in uniting to approach problems that impact the health of their entire community, while also giving me the chance to leverage my role to advocate for positive change through researching best practices across other departments and making complex data digestible for others.

In this position my main responsibility was to cultivate and maintain partnerships with county/city government officials to provide public health technical assistance regarding utilization of opioid abatement settlement funds from the state of Tennessee. This included:- Developing a local community grant application process to disperse settlements funds, including organizing a review committee of subject matter experts and facilitating evaluation of all funded projects.- Cultivating reciprocal partnerships with local elected officials and stakeholders in neighboring counties across the mid-state.- Providing technical assistance to SUD/OUD projects on data collection processes, troubleshooting adjusted metrics for tracking, and communicating success stories of grant funded projects. - Coordinating a Middle TN Opioid Abatement Summit alongside the University of TN SMART Initiative to provide professional development and technical assistance to local officials from over 20 counties and 7 cities.This job provided an opportunity for me to see how higher education public health programs can assist local government officials in achieving progress on addressing community health disparities, specifically those regarding substance use disorder, and how utilizing data can accelerate community impact.

In this position my main responsibility was to oversee the implementation and execution of a five year block grant from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) awarded to the Tennessee Department of Education bringing in over $360,000 a year. This included:- Grant management and administrative support for budgeting, evaluation documentation, and allotting disbursements for grant partners- Engaging state and national agencies in collaboration of resource development targeted towards LEAs across the state - Providing technical assistance to school districts in program planning and strategic professional development scheduling- Coordinating public and private stakeholders to conduct a statewide school health advisory council (SHAC) throughout the year- Establishing statewide professional development support for health promotion in out-of-school (OST) between the Tennessee Department of Education and the Tennessee Department of HealthThis job provided an opportunity for me to see state government from an insider's prospective and the important role that policy plays in maintaining and shaping the services that community members can have access to, as well as witness how statewide policies can affect communities differently around the entire state.

In this position my main responsibility was to facilitate engaging learning strategies in a smaller environment for K-3 students with developmental and/or learning disabilities based upon their individual needs. This included:- Adapting creative ways to grow student's mastery of skills both functionally and also academically- Developing efficient classroom management tactics and finding solutions to problems that came up- Working alongside other team members to propel student's into further academic achievement- Instilling confidence, empathy, and gratitude in the next generation through conversations and confrontationsThis job provided an opportunity for me to see how wide a variety of needs students possess in academic setting that are not directly connected to their academic abilities, as well as teach me the existing support structures in place within our education system to help close the gaps that students may need for success.

In this position my main responsibility was to help our team transform online agriculture curriculum into an attractive and easy to navigate format so that students of all ages across 11 southeast states could engage with it. This included:- Building the landing page and website that parents and students could use to learn more about the project- Assist in structuring the format of our online learning modules to maximize the impact our units could have on students- Creating marketing materials that were sent and posted across our 11 target states to help spread awareness about the project- Managed multiple accounts for posting social media materials to increase engagement with our online curriculumThis job provided a chance for me to gain hands-on experience on what it takes to create and distribute a large project across many different areas and states, while also giving me opportunities to tap into my creative side to dream up engaging marketing materials that promoted agriculture competency in students.

In this position my main responsibility was to assist in events surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic as it pertained to the campus of Middle Tennessee State University. This included:- Contacting exposed contacts and confirmed cases of COVID-19 to provide guidelines for a return to campus and safe recovery- Assisted in organizing and planning registration systems for mass vaccination efforts- Inputting and checking data on vaccination doses to report to the State of Tennessee- Used creativity to direct campaigns aimed at recruiting our students to take part in receiving their vaccineThis job gave me the chance to work firsthand with officials at the University, as well as in the county, in their approaches to minimizing the spread of COVID-19 in the community on a widespread scale.

In this position my main responsibility was to lead local fourth and fifth grade students through engaging developmental programs, while also building relationships with the students in order to foster a safe environment. In this role my main responsibility was to lead and manage thirty-minute long small group training classes at our on-campus recreation center. This included:- Teaching technique to multiple age groups and individuals with varying levels of experience in exercise- Managing a class of up to eight participants at a time while giving critique to prevent injury- Directing participants to exercise stations and promptly giving instruction to promote efficiency- Preparing the facility before classes to ensure adequate equipment is provided- Promoting accessibility of exercise classes to members of the community through advertisement- Transferred all workouts to digital streaming formats over zoom during COVID-19 crisisThis job provided experience leading in exercise settings, teaching safe and proper technique to novice exercisers, and managing group settings with multiple individuals at once.
