Business is the ultimate team sport. I love being part of teams that communicate well, break down barriers and enable individuals and organizations to realize their potential. I value history and tradition but don’t believe they should limit our field of vision. No organization should fear the question “Why?”In some organizations, Finance acts as a judgmental scorekeeper, focusing inward and backward with little vision to the future. In others, functional teams resist change for the comfort of “the way we’ve always done it”. When these things happen, teams fracture, growth stalls and opportunities are lost. I address these challenges by approaching leadership roles as a colleague, rather than an expert. My first focus is on building relationships, to understand our challenges and opportunities through the eyes of my teammates. Then I work proactively with them to pull the pieces together into a cohesive vision and strategy for creating value across our organization. With an eye on both the market and key business drivers, I ensure they have the systems, support, and tools they need to successfully execute our strategy. I also make sure our Board and other stakeholders have a clear understanding of where we are, where we’re heading and what it means for them.In short, I connect the big picture to the bottom line.I am driven by problem-focused opportunities. Industries and businesses undergoing rapid growth or significant change intrigue me. People who know me best describe me as inquisitive and “a quick study”. This helps me get my arms around new ideas, break complex problems into manageable tasks and attack them systematically. Resources are always limited; creating value means making sure they are allocated to the best opportunities.I’ve been both a CEO and CFO and worked in industries ranging from technology to fishing, consumer products to non-profit. As a banker, I spent 15 years raising capital and closing deals. My other strengths include corporate strategy, business development, and M&A. I understand how to balance stakeholders’ needs across the organization. I am equally comfortable interacting in the Boardroom, the break room or on the line. I look forward to discussing the opportunities and challenges facing your organization; contact me at ChipWilsonCFO@gmail.com.
