I am Ogbogu Chisom Emmanuel, a current graduate student of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University Africa with a focus on Energy Systems and Clean Energy Development. I am passionate about sustainable energy development, especially across sub-Saharan Africa, where energy sustainability plays a pivotal role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fostering societal transformation. This passion drives my active involvement in research and discussions that promote energy sustainability.As a sustainability researcher and development strategist, I have led numerous research projects. My work in nanotechnology focuses on developing sensors that can detect and capture fossil fuel and greenhouse gas emissions in real time. I’ve also researched the role of Wide Area Measurement Systems (WAMS) in enhancing the situational awareness of aging power infrastructures in sub-Saharan Africa, with the goal of improving grid observability, controllability, and overall efficiency.I am deeply committed to youth development and sustainability advocacy. I’ve led various teams and organizations in initiatives that advance sustainability profiles while contributing to conversations on climate change, governance, clean energy, and education. Notably, I co-organized the Mega Student Leadership Conference, which promotes SDG 4 and 17, and has convened over 3,500 students in two editions.I have had the privilege of working closely with the Global Focal Point of the SDG7 Youth Constituency and the Youth Advisory Group to the UN Secretary-General. In 2024, I contributed to drafting a comprehensive report with over 40 key stakeholders, including leaders from 30+ countries, on the value chain of critical energy minerals.Currently, I’m working on modeling PMU deployment in conventional power systems in Nigeria, examining the feasibility of developing a comprehensive Cyber-Physical Power System through Markov Chain modeling.
